The president of Argentina’s FA has taken to social media to correct a ‘false’ claim about Cristian Romero’s latest injury.
Romero suffered a knee injury against Sunderland back in April, which saw him miss Tottenham’s final six league matches of the campaign.
The centre-back managed to return to fitness in time for the World Cup and started Argentina’s first two matches of the tournament against Algeria and Austria.
However, Romero suffered another knee injury in the 2-0 win over Austria and subsequently missed Argentina’s 3-1 win over Jordan, with new Spurs signing Marcos Senesi coming into the starting line-up in the Tottenham captain’s place.

Journalist says Tottenham’s Cristian Romero will be fit soon
Spurs are expected to cash in on Romero this summer, and officials at the North London club would have been concerned about whether his injury could affect their chances of a sale.
Journalist Gaston Edul has now taken to social media to claim that the 28-year-old’s injury is not serious, and he is expected to be back in time for the round of 16 stage.
Edul wrote on X: “Cuti Romero got an MRI and it came back fine. He didn’t injure the ligament. Tomorrow, he’ll be back training with the group because the inflammation has gone down. He has a week to get ready and make it to the round of 16. He’s going to make it.”
Argentina FA president dismisses Romero injury update
In a twist, the president of the Argentine FA, Chiqui Tapia, has taken to social media to refute Edul’s update on Romero.
Tapia accused the journalist of reporting a ‘false claim’, insisting that the Tottenham man is yet to have a scan to assess the damage.
Tapia wrote on X: “Be serious when communicating, and when you do, tell the truth. The information being circulated is false: no MRI was performed.”
