A Tottenham defender, who played just four times last season, is the subject of interest from a Champions League club this summer.
Several senior players could leave Tottenham over the coming weeks, as the club continue rebuilding their squad ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.
Spurs’ backline has been reinforced significantly, with Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke arriving through the door.
The arrival of Robertson means that one Tottenham youngster will struggle to get game time next season, and he is now being linked with a late move away from Spurs.
Tottenham starlet Souza is a priority target for Porto
Souza played four times last season since arriving from Santos in January, but the youngster has not been involved in the club’s pre-season programme due to an injury.
It emerged last month that Porto had explored a deal for the Tottenham left-back and had held meetings with the player’s camp.
Foot Mercato reporter Santi Aouna has now revealed that Porto have identified Souza as a ‘priority’ target in the final days of the window, and are looking to make progress on the deal.
Aouna wrote on X: “At left-back, Tottenham’s Souza is the priority for the Dragons, who also wish to make progress on this file.”
Why Spurs are likely to loan out Souza rather than sell him
Having signed him just seven months ago, one would not expect Tottenham to cash in on the Brazilian starlet so early, with a temporary switch appearing more likely.
This is also because reports have indicated that De Zerbi is an admirer of the 20-year-old’s qualities, even though the Italian did not use him during the club’s relegation battle last season.
Brazilian journalist Eduardo Burgos even claimed last week that De Zerbi is Souza’s biggest supporter at Spurs and believes that the youngster has the potential to evolve into a ‘game changer’.
