A Tottenham Hotspur youngster, who struggled on loan last term, has already caught Roberto De Zerbi’s eye in pre-season.
With the 12 Tottenham stars who were in World Cup action yet to return for pre-season, the club’s academy youngsters have had a great opportunity to catch the eye of the Spurs boss.
The likes of Mikey Moore, Dane Scarlett, Ashley Phillips and others are trying to make a good first impression on De Zerbi.
It has now emerged that a 21-year-old Tottenham midfielder, who did not have the best of seasons out on loan last term, has won over the Italian coach in the first week and a half of pre-season.
Jamie Donley set to be part of Tottenham’s pre-season tour
Jamie Donley was recalled from his spell at Stoke City in January and loaned out to Oxford United for the second half of the season, after struggling for opportunities at bet365 Stadium.
While he got plenty of game time at Oxford, he could not make many decisive contributions, picking up just one goal and one assist in 13 outings for the side, which ended up being relegated from the Championship.
However, Alasdair Gold has now revealed that Donley has managed to impress De Zerbi in pre-season, and he is now set to be part of the group that will travel to New Zealand and Australia on the pre-season tour.
Gold wrote on X: “Some good Spurs academy player news at last today. Understand Jamie Donley has impressed Roberto De Zerbi so far in pre-season and is in with a good chance of going on the tour to New Zealand and Australia later this week.”
De Zerbi has already decided on Mikey Moore’s next step
Many Spurs fans were hoping that Moore would be given first-team opportunities during the upcoming season after the Spurs teenager picked up the SPL Young Player of the Year award for his impressive displays on loan at Rangers.
However, according to reports, Tottenham have informed Moore that he will be loaned out again, as Roberto De Zerbi does not see a direct path for the youngster to get regular first-team football in the upcoming season.
Spurs have already rejected a loan offer from Ipswich Town for the 18-year-old winger, as the Lilywhites do not want to send him to a club that will be battling against relegation next season.
