Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on adding another central midfielder to their squad, but they face competition from Brentford to land an exciting young talent.

Spurs have spent a combined £185m on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali already this summer, but they may not be done adding reinforcements to the middle of the park.

Tottenham insider, Szyexcl, has claimed on social media that Tottenham will look to add another midfielder to their squad if they sell both Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr.

One of the players on the Lilywhites’ radar is an 18-year-old who is quickly establishing a big reputation for himself in Turkish football.

Tottenham battling Brentford for Ousmane Diabate

It was reported earlier in the summer that Tottenham had scouted Gençlerbirliği starlet Ousmane Diabate extensively, and were considering making a move for him. Diabete has even been compared to French legend N’Golo Kante.

Tottenham’s interest in the Guinea international has now been backed up by The Daily Mail, but the outlet reveals that the Lilywhites will face competition from Brentford for the youngster.

The report says that the Bees want to add two midfielders to their squad if they lose Jordan Henderson, and Gençlerbirliği man is one of the names on their wishlist.

However, it does not appear that the youngster is a priority for Keith Andrews’ side, as it is revealed that Brentford view Diabate as one for the future rather than an immediate first-team fixture.

Diabate’s entourage have welcomed Spurs’ interest

Brentford are not the only Premier League club the Lilywhites have to be wary of in the race for the young defensive midfielder.

It was previously reported by TEAMtalk that Tottenham could face competition from Aston Villa and Brighton for Diabate’s signature this summer.

Speaking to Africa Foot back in May, Diabate’s agent confirmed that Spurs have scouted his client, welcoming the Lilywhites’ interest and admitting to holding discussions with the London club.
