Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes may not be the only two midfielders that arrive through the door at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Lilywhites broke their transfer record twice in a matter of days to sign the Portuguese and Italian stars, paying a combined £185m for the pair.

Spurs fans are understandably excited to see the pair play together in a new-look Tottenham midfield, having got some glimpses of them operating together in pre-season.

According to reports, there is a lot of excitement at Spurs about Fernandes, in particular, with many at the club convinced that the 22-year-old could develop into one of the best in the world in his position.

Tottenham could sign another central midfielder to their squad under one condition

The Lilywhites could also lose some midfielders over the coming weeks, with Lucas Bergvall’s future at Tottenham continuing to be the subject of much speculation.

Pape Sarr has also been linked with a move away from Spurs after struggling for game time once De Zerbi took charge last season.

Tottenham insider Szyexcel has now revealed that an interested club is soon expected to step up their pursuit of Sarr.

He added that if the Senegal international and Bergvall both leave, the Lilywhites will look to add another midfielder to their squad.

Szyexcel wrote on X: “Sarr is expected to go. An interested club is going to step up interest soon. Bergvall is still expected to go. Spurs will enter the market for a midfielder if they manage to sell both.”

Sarr has been linked with London rival as well as Serie A club

While Szyexcel does not reveal which club is likely to step up their interest in Sarr, a couple of clubs have already been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.

According to reports from Italy, Napoli have explored a move for the Tottenham midfielder, as they look for a younger option to replace Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Additionally, it emerged last month that Brentford had expressed an interest in taking Sarr to the Gtech Community Stadium.
