Tottenham Hotspur could shatter a Premier League record before the end of the transfer window, as they remain on the cusp of a huge double deal.
Spurs fans were very disappointed by the lacklustre display their side produced against an energetic Brentford side on the opening day of the season, with Roberto De Zerbi’s men being brushed aside 3-0.
However, some of the disappointment with the result has been curtailed due to the transfer developments that followed in the 24 hours following the defeat in West London.
Several sources are now reporting that Tottenham have agreed a deal with Man City for Omar Marmoush, who will follow Savinho to the North London club.
Tottenham close to breaking all-time Premier League spending record
CaughtOffside relays what other sources have reported on the Savinho and Marmoush deals, claiming that they will cost a combined £140m. Other sources have put that combined fee closer to £135m.
The pair become Tottenham’s seventh and eighth signings of the summer, following Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
This takes Spurs’ total gross spending for this window to £372m, which is not a long way away from the record amount spent by a Premier League club in a single window.

The record is currently held by Liverpool, who spent £440m last summer on new additions, and the Lilywhites could break that record before the window slams shut.
Whether or not it would actually count as a Tottenham record due to Omar Marmoush’s potential £50m obligation next summer remains to be seen. Ironically, a deal for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo could take Spurs closer to the half-a-billion mark.
Liverpool’s struggles last season may serve as a lesson to Spurs
Despite spending such huge amounts on several big-name additions, Liverpool struggled to gel as a team last season.
That can sometimes be the consequence of making wholesale changes to the squad in a single window, with the players needing time to settle into the new environment and understand their teammates.
Following the loss on Saturday, De Zerbi admitted that Tottenham are not a team yet, confessing that building a cohesive unit is a process which cannot happen overnight after major changes to the squad.
