Tottenham could benefit from Southampton’s spygate saga after £25m reveal

Southampton are reeling after being booted out of the Championship playoff for spying on their opponents, and Tottenham Hotspur could add to the South Coast club’s misery.

The Saints were caught spying on their semi-final opponents, Middlesbrough, before the first leg, and they have admitted to multiple breaches of EFL regulations related to the unauthorised filming of other clubs’ training.

As a result, despite emerging victorious in the playoff semi-final, they were disqualified, with Boro sent to face Hull City in the final at Wembley instead.

It was the Tigers who eventually emerged victorious to join the likes of Spurs (thankfully) in the Premier League next season.

Southampton have also been hit with a four-point suspension for next year, and Tottenham may be set to add to their woes this summer.

Tottenham could poach Leo Scienza from Southampton

It was reported last month that Spurs were eyeing a move for Southampton midfielder Leo Scienza, who has set the Championship alight this term.

Football.London have now confirmed that the attacking midfielder is indeed on Tottenham’s radar, and the Lilywhites could pounce on the 27-year-old after Southampton were dumped out of the playoffs.

With the Saints set to remain in the Championship next term, there is major doubt over the futures of many of their key players, including Scienza.

It is asserted that the door could be open for Roberto De Zerbi’s men to tie up a £25m deal for the Brazilian, who has managed 10 goals and 10 assists across 47 appearances this term.

Spurs want Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi

It was widely reported that Tottenham drafted two different plans for the upcoming transfer window, depending on whether they stayed up or went down.

Thankfully, Spurs will be able to use Plan A this summer, and it looks like that could start with signing Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free deals.

It is said that De Zerbi wants to add some more experience and leadership to a Spurs team who finished 17th in back-to-back Premier League seasons.
