A new report has shed light on what Barcelona are thinking about their pursuit of Tottenham captain Cristian Romero ahead of the summer transfer window.

Romero has spoken highly of the impact of Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham, but his future at N17 remains uncertain.

Some sources have suggested that the Spurs captain is expected to leave this summer even if the club stay in the Premier League, while just a few days ago, the Tottenham boss said that a decision on Romero’s future will have to wait until the season is over.

Over recent weeks, it has emerged that Barcelona have identified the Spurs defender as a ‘Plan B’ if they are not able to secure Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.

What Barcelona are thinking about Cristian Romero’s Tottenham future

Last week, one Spanish outlet claimed that Hansi Flick sees the Tottenham star as the ideal fit for Barca, due to his experience at the highest level and his leadership qualities.

Now, a new report in from Sport has said that the Catalan club is continuing to ‘closely monitor’ Romero’s situation ahead of the summer window.

The report confidently states that the Premier League side will allow the 28-year-old to leave this summer, even if they manage to avoid relegation.

It is asserted that the centre-back was offered to Barca over a month ago, and the La Liga giants subsequently made contact with his agent, and are now waiting for a response.

The feeling among the Camp Nou hierarchy is that the defender will ‘definitely leave’ N17 this summer.

Barcelona considering offering cash plus a player for Romero

Tottenham’s asking price for the former Juventus man will be impacted significantly by whether the club stay up or go down.

If Spurs do remain in the Premier League, they are expected to demand €60m (£51.8m) from Barcelona for Romero’s services.

However, this is too expensive for the La Liga champions, who want to ‘significantly lower the price’ by offering one of their players to Spurs as part of the deal.
