England World Cup call-ups for Tottenham duo Dominic Solanke and Djed Spence don’t look likely as Thomas Tuchel is about to confirm his 26-man squad.

Once the Premier League season ends, attention is set to turn to international football with the World Cup in sight.

Thus far, a couple of Spurs stars have already received call-ups ahead of the World Cup finals, including Luka Vuskovic, Lucas Bergvall, and Kevin Danso.

However, for others, it is an anxious wait as their respective countries finalise their World Cup squads ahead of this summer’s competition.

Tottenham duo Djed Spence and Dominic Solanke look set to miss World Cup with England

The Three Lions have yet to submit their official 26-man squad, but all eyes will be on the announcement at 9:45 am on Friday morning.

This is of interest to Spurs, who have had a few of their stars represent England in recent years. Djed Spence, for one, only received his first-team call-up to the England squad last year, while Dominic Solanke has been a regular presence in the recent set-up.

However, given Tottenham’s struggles this season, it always seemed likely that the pair might miss out. Leaks on Thursday evening suggested that Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney had been selected over Solanke, while the likes of Livramento, O’Reilly, and Reece James got in over Spence.

England competition leaves out-of-form Spurs stars in the dust

Spence is a versatile option capable of filling in at both left and right-back and would arguably be a valuable addition to the England side.

However, when he struggles to break into a rather poor Spurs XI, question marks are fairly raised over his potential selection in the national team.

He also faces stiff competition in the full-back spots, with England having several options to pick from, including Reece James, Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, Nico O’Reilly and others.

As for Solanke, injuries this season have severely hampered his chances of an England call-up. Thus far for Spurs, he has made just 11 Premier League starts and scored 3 goals.

The competition for places up top is also fierce, with Ollie Watkins, Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all options for Thomas Tuchel.

Should the Tottenham pair miss out, as speculated, one could hardly argue against that decision, given how poorly their respective seasons have gone compared to the other options available to England.

It won’t be an easy pill to swallow, but they will now have to turn their attention towards keeping Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday against Everton.
