Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been quick to react after the latest Fabrizio Romano “here we go” update on Andy Robertson, with most fans appearing to agree on the same view as the deal edges closer.

Getting new signings through the door early in the summer transfer window will certainly do Tottenham Hotspur a lot of good as they prepare for next season.

The North London club look to be acting swiftly in that regard and are now close to completing their first piece of transfer business.

It is understood that Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement with Andy Robertson and that a deal is set to be signed soon, despite Juventus’ attempt to hijack the move.

Andy Robertson is edging closer to a Spurs move

Andy Robertson is far from his prime years, which he spent at Anfield with Liverpool. However, this signing is more about experience, with the Scotland international a veteran who has won it all in club football.

Spurs fans have now taken to social media to share their thoughts on the latest piece of business, and many supporters are happy that the deal is close to being done.

Many believe that bringing in an experienced player like Robertson is not a bad move. One fan said: “Premier League experienced left-back, won it all. Do not mind it.”

Another added: “I like it, backup left-back with one game a week.”

A third wrote: “I mean sure he cannot get up and down like he used to, but after a long time a left-back who can put crosses into the box 🤍 now get me a box striker Spurs.”

While another believes the signing is in line with what Roberto De Zerbi is looking to build: “Anyone complaining about this signing does not understand the mentality De Zerbi is demanding.”

Another fan then added: “Backup left-back!👀 He starts, simple as that. Winning mentality, very good defender, gets up the pitch, a cracking left foot and fit as f**k in his 30s.”

The comments kept coming, with one stating: “Yeah – we have been moaning for years about buying kids who amount to nothing. Granted, he is at the latter side of his career, but I would rather have his experience and fight in our team than the kids now. We need to get back up that table. He is not the sole answer, but a good start.”

While a final supporter added: “We do need a mentality monster. This is the sort of experience Spurs need. Yes he is not as good as what he was in 2019/20, but mentality wise this is a statement signing.”

Spurs must balance experience with quality

Tottenham surely have to get the balance right as they look to rebuild their squad, and signing experienced players who have operated at the highest level is a sensible approach.

However, they must also ensure they bring in players who can influence games on the pitch and ultimately win them.

Such marquee signings are also on the club’s radar as Tottenham eye a move for Savinho. Splashing the cash on players of that profile will be important, while also taking advantage of the free-agent market, where quality players are available, could help Tottenham balance the books.

Another free agent could also be on the way after Tottenham reached a verbal agreement with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi ahead of the summer window.
