Tottenham’s failed move for Sebastian Kehl has sparked a huge reaction from supporters, with many fans delighted after reports emerged explaining why the deal collapsed.
Spurs Web reported yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur’s move to appoint Sebastian Kehl as the club’s new director of football had fallen through.
That came after reports before the end of last season suggested a deal was expected to progress should Spurs avoid relegation to the Championship.
Tottenham eventually secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day of the season, which ultimately sent West Ham United down instead.
Despite the earlier optimism surrounding the appointment, it was revealed yesterday that one of the issues behind the collapse was Roberto De Zerbi being handed greater influence within Tottenham’s sporting structure moving forward.

Tottenham fans react after Sebastian Kehl talks collapse
Tottenham supporters have now reacted to the latest reports surrounding the collapse of the Kehl deal, with many fans appearing delighted that the move will no longer happen.
Several supporters praised Roberto De Zerbi directly after hearing the reason behind the breakdown in talks.
One fan wrote: “Thank you Roberto again”, while another added: “Good. De Zerbi should have majority of power to fix the mess the incompetent people have put us in.”
Another supporter commented: “God bless De Zerbi. Now tell Lange to f**k off and go get Freedman”, while one other fan stated: “Thank f**k. Let us get an actual DOF in, not a fraud.”
Fans continued to make similar points throughout the reaction online. One supporter posted: “DE ZERBI SAVING US AGAIN”, while another added: “Sacrifice anyone you want for Roberto – he saved us!”
Another fan wrote: “This Italian bloke is single-handedly saving our club in every possible aspect”, while one other supporter commented: “De Zerbi can have all the influence after saving us last season for all I care.”
A final fan added: “Just the fact that we are not hiring him is great on its own, but this being the reason makes it even better.”
Spurs could now revisit other sporting director targets
Tottenham had several other names on their shortlist during the search for a new sporting director following Fabio Paratici’s departure earlier this year.
Dougie Freedman, now with Al-Diraiyah FC after previously spending eight years at Crystal Palace, was among the names admired internally by Spurs.
Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley and Bournemouth president Tiago Pinto were also linked with the role, and Tottenham could now reopen discussions with one of those options as the search continues.
