Tottenham fans are split as Manchester City eye Destiny Udogie transfer

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to reports linking Destiny Udogie with a shock move to Manchester City this summer — and while some supporters are open to it, others fear it could be the start of another worrying trend.

A handful of Tottenham fans would agree that Destiny Udogie has not had the best of second seasons in north London this time around.

The full-back has had his fair share of injuries, having picked up a knock in December that kept him out until February. He has since returned to full fitness but is no longer as nailed-on as he once was, given Djed Spence’s recent form.

Regardless, Udogie has still featured 23 times for the Lilywhites in the Premier League, notching one assist in that time.

Manchester City shortlist Tottenham full-back Destiny Udogie

Reports from Fabrizio Romano now reveal that Destiny Udogie is on the shortlist of reigning champions Manchester City, who are looking to bring in a new full-back this summer.

City are said to be big admirers of the 22-year-old due to his versatility — capable of playing on either flank — his physical attributes and the fact that he’s already proven in the Premier League.

While he is being considered, it’s also claimed that striking a deal won’t be straightforward, given Daniel Levy’s notoriously tough stance in negotiations.

Tottenham fans, now very much aware of the links, have been reacting across social media. The response has been mixed, with some open to a potential sale, while others are once again disillusioned with the club’s direction.

One fan said: “I swear to god, if this man leaves I am done.” Another wrote: “Stop overreacting man, we have a young squad, we are gonna be title challengers in like five years time. Yeah until you realise all of these ‘youth signings’ will be gone to clubs that actually win instantly and not wait for five-year projects.”

Another supporter chimed in: “Cash in on him — wrong mentality. If you can get £60m…” While one added: “Bravo Spurs fans… you lot have been giving so many players a hard time. Won’t be surprised if he actually considers it… hope this doesn’t happen.”

One even predicted a clearout: “It’ll be an exodus next season. Romero, Kulu, Udogie all gone.”

Some fans were pragmatic: “Ngl give us £50m and you’ve got a deal,” while another offered: “£60m and I’ll drive him there. Spence is much better and not even in his proper position.”

While Udogie’s form has dropped off this term, his performances last season were enough to show that the full-back is a serious talent.

He’s a tactical asset, able to operate as a traditional winger, invert when needed, and is physical and quick enough to handle defensive duties.

Spurs can’t afford to lose more of their best players

Regardless of what fans are saying, Tottenham Hotspur cannot afford to lose more of their best players this summer.

Cristian Romero is reportedly open to leaving Spurs, and if Udogie follows him out the door, that’s another key part of the back four gone.

Spurs are meant to be rebuilding, and if that’s genuinely the plan, then it needs to be done around their best players — not by selling them and bringing in replacements who’ll take time to adapt.

There are only so many windows you can reset before the cycle becomes exhausting, and if the likes of Udogie are moved on this early into the project, then what exactly is the plan?
