Tottenham fans react to huge £20m twist in the Eberechi Eze transfer race

Tottenham fans are already split on the latest Eberechi Eze update, as reports claim Crystal Palace could accept instalments for the England international.

Reports linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze are nothing new, as these links seem to surface in every transfer window.

However, this summer could prove a crucial one for the player, for Palace and Tottenham, as he currently has just two years left on his contract, with a £68 million release clause that becomes active in the coming weeks.

Naturally, Crystal Palace would not want to lose Eze on a free when his deal runs out, which makes this window the best possible time to cash in – that is, if he does not end up signing a new contract to extend his stay in South London.

Tottenham fans react to Eberechi Eze payment structure update

Just yesterday, on 21 June, it was reported that Crystal Palace are prepared to accept three instalments of approximately £20 million each for Eberechi Eze, rather than demanding the full £68 million release clause up front.

For Spurs agreeing a deal under these terms will be great for them this summer, as they are not going to splash a huge sum of money at once.

However, it remains unclear whether Tottenham Hotspur will actively pursue a move under these conditions, but supporters of the North London side have already begun reacting to the revelation.

Many Spurs fans are sceptical, with some doubting that Crystal Palace would genuinely agree to such a structure, while others used the moment to criticise Daniel Levy and the club’s negotiating stance.

One fan remarked: “This seems a bit silly, shall not believe this until I see it. If they are demanding $60 then pay that amount, he is worth it. Levy sees it as nothing more than a missed opportunity to buy another hotel or apartment, though.”

Another said: “I really doubt that they’d accept those terms tbh.” One supporter suggested that with such a structure, Tottenham should be able to make an additional big-name move: “If this is the deal with 20 mil in instalments there’s no reason we can’t go for Xavi Simons as well.”

A different fan criticised the chairman directly: “Levy will not do it, he will offer £18m instead.”

Another simply could not make sense of Spurs’ transfer approach: “Gotta love supporting a club which pays £60m+ on Solanke and £50m+ on Johnson but will spend four entire seasons ‘monitoring’ £60/70m Ebere Eze and refusing to pay the money. Make it make sense please.”

Someone else saw it from Palace’s perspective: “They would be stupid not to take £60m over five years this summer. Let us be realistic… How many clubs need him and are willing to pay the money, even £20m x3? Two years left on his deal. They need to be realistic.”

Spurs still weighing up wide forward options amid Eze interest

Of course, while Tottenham have shown strong interest in landing Eberechi Eze, the club are still considering other options to reinforce the wide areas.

It was exclusively revealed by Spurs Web earlier this week that Crystal Palace are keen to keep hold of Eze for one more season, which suggests they may reject all offers outright in this window.

However, Tottenham have also retained an interest in Antonio Nusa, who Spurs were thought to be on the verge of signing from Club Brugge back in January 2024, before Brentford swooped in late on.

Nusa failed his medical test with the Bees and instead joined RB Leipzig, where he featured 40 times last season, scoring five goals and assisting eight.

With Thomas Frank having tried to sign him when he was head coach of Brentford, there is a chance the Dane makes a move for the 20-year-old once more this summer.
