Tottenham fans react to strangest Cristian Romero rumour yet – ‘Absolutely no way’

Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted strongly to the latest reports linking Cristian Romero with a move to Aston Villa, with many dismissing the rumours outright and others scoffing at the suggested transfer fee.

The summer transfer window is fast approaching, and as expected, speculation around Cristian Romero’s future is ramping up.

Given his desire to leave Spurs for Champions League football, it’s no surprise that clubs are circling, hoping to lure the World Cup-winning defender away from north London.

With the transfer window’s start date already confirmed, clubs set to compete in the upcoming Club World Cup will be eager to finalise their signings early.

Atletico Madrid remain the frontrunners in the race for Romero, having reportedly initiated contact with the defender’s representatives.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are said to be monitoring the Argentine’s situation closely, aware of any potential opportunity that may arise.

Aston Villa eye Cristian Romero in surprise move

New reports now claim Aston Villa have emerged as contenders to sign Cristian Romero, with the Midlands club reportedly prepared to offer a ridiculous £55 million for the centre-back.

However, Spurs fans have not taken kindly to these rumours, and the response has been emphatic. One fan dismissed the reports outright, saying, “I thought April Fools was yesterday, lads?”

Another fumed, “If we sell our best defender to Aston Villa, then delete the club. In no circumstance should we be selling one of our best players to a team that was in the Championship, came up, and is now outperforming us. Embarrassing as it is, let alone selling our top players to them.”

Another fan was adamant that Daniel Levy would never agree to such a deal at that price, stating, “Absolutely no way Levy will sell for that price to Villa, a Prem rival. He knows their income… Levy will ask for £80 million plus.”

Some fans also expressed frustration over Spurs potentially losing ground to a team that has been on the rise in recent seasons. “This would genuinely be so embarrassing to lose him to another Prem club, especially a club that in recent times has been getting better than us,” one supporter remarked.

Another echoed the sentiment, “Absolutely no chance. Levy will be happy to cash in, but he’ll want double that to sell to a Premier League rival. (I’m not saying he’s worth that, by the way—just know how Levynomics works.)”

Romero won’t leave Tottenham on the cheap this summer

If there’s one thing Spurs fans agree on, it’s that Cristian Romero will not be allowed to leave for a cut-price fee, especially to a Premier League rival.

Daniel Levy’s negotiating tactics are well documented, and history suggests any sale within the league would command a hefty premium.

If a foreign club is willing to pay around £60 million for Romero, any English side would likely have to cough up significantly more—perhaps even double that amount—given the financial muscle of Premier League teams.
