Tottenham Hotspur are not giving up on a deal for Cody Gakpo and are pushing forward with their pursuit despite facing fresh competition.
It has been widely reported that Gakpo has already spoken with Roberto De Zerbi and is keen on making the move to North London.
However, the deal has run into potential complications over the last two days, with the Lilywhites facing fresh competition in the race for the Dutchman.
On Monday, Man City made contact with Gakpo’s camp regarding a move to the Etihad Stadium, thus potentially throwing the cat among the pigeons in the transfer race.
Second source confirms Tottenham preparing fresh offer for Cody Gakpo
Spurs Web relayed a report from the Netherlands yesterday claiming that Tottenham are preparing a second offer for Gakpo after seeing their opening £60m bid turned down by Liverpool.
This has now been backed up by journalist Nicolo Schira, who claimed that De Zerbi’s men are readying a new bid for the Netherlands international after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the forward.
Interestingly, he also asserted that Tottenham have identified Chelsea’s Mykhaylo Mudryk as an alternative should they fail with their pursuit of Gakpo.
Schira wrote on X: “Tottenham are set to submit a new official bid to Liverpool to try to close Cody Gakpo’s signing. Agreement in principle between the Dutch winger and THFC for a contract until 2031. Spurs’ Plan B is Mykhaylo Mudryk (Chelsea).”
Spurs remain hopeful of winning race for Gakpo
TEAMtalk have relayed this update from Schira and have provided their own information on the Lilywhites’ attempts to sign the former PSV Eindhoven man.
Their sources reveal that the North London club remain hopeful of landing Gakpo as long as Liverpool are able to sign at least one of Bradley Barcola or Yankuba Minteh over the coming days.
The website adds that at the moment, Tottenham are discussing any Plan B and are continuing to work on getting the Reds star through the door before September 1.
