Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a major transfer battle to land Serie A attacking midfielder Matias Soule, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

According to reports, Spurs are expected to undertake a major spending spree this summer as they look to rebuild their squad following successive 17th-place finishes.

Tottenham’s owners are expected to inject more capital into the club to fund De Zerbi’s spending spree as the Italian puts his own imprint on the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

The North Londoners are continuing to scour the market for reinforcements across the pitch, and they have now turned their attention to an AS Roma star.

Tottenham battling two Premier League clubs and a European club for Matias Soule

Calciomercato.it have claimed that the Lilywhites have registered an interest in Roma star Matias Soule, who has emerged as one of the Gialorossi’s main attacking threats over the last couple of years.

The versatile attacking midfielder, who can also play on the right-wing, scored seven goals and provided eight assists last season, and is emerging as one of the hottest properties of the transfer window.

The report says that the possibility of Soule exiting the Stadio Olimpico is becoming ‘increasingly concrete’, particularly since Roma need to raise funds to balance their books before June 30.

Tottenham face competition from Bournemouth and Aston Villa for the Argentine, while Borussia Dortmund are also keeping a close eye on his situation.

Contrasting reports emerge on Soule’s valuation

Journalist Patrick Berger says the Roma attacker has a release clause of around €25m to €30m (£21.6-£26m) in his contract with the Serie A club.

Berger wrote on X: “Matias Soule has a release clause in his contract, valid until June 30. The fee is between €25m and €30m. Several clubs are interested. BVB are monitoring the situation, but it’s not concrete or hot at this stage. Other clubs from the UK are interested too.”

However, Calciomercato.it claim that there is no such release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract, asserting that the Giallorossi are demanding €35m-€40m (£30.2-£38.8) for the attacking midfielder.
