Tottenham’s defensive transfer pursuit continues as the club joins the race for a Chelsea defender ahead of the deadline on Monday.

Tottenham struggling in the January transfer market
The January transfer window has brought nothing but frustration for Tottenham Hotspur, as the club finds itself entering the final days without a single outfield signing to strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
At the start of the window, Tottenham made an approach for Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, identifying the French international as a potential attacking addition, yet the club suffered a setback as the player opted for a move to Juventus instead.
Undeterred, they turned their attention to another young French talent, Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, yet once again, they were left disappointed as the 19-year-old chose to remain in the Bundesliga rather than seek a mid-season switch to North London.
The rejection did not stop there. Earlier today, Tottenham were reported to have made an approach for AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, only for the English defender to reject the opportunity to leave the Serie A giants.

Tottenham approach Axel Disasi in latest defensive push
Despite their setbacks, Tottenham Hotspur are said to still be active in the final days of the window. The latest reports suggest that the club has now turned its attention to Axel Disasi, as they look to bring in much-needed defensive reinforcements.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have made their approach, with the journalist reporting via X: “Axel Disasi has been approached by Tottenham as they’re insisting for a new centre back.
“Disasi already agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and he’s now expected to make a decision soon. Up to the player.”
The development suggests that Tottenham’s recruitment team is now acting with urgency in an attempt to avoid another fruitless window, yet Disasi’s situation remains uncertain, with Aston Villa still firmly in contention for his signature.

There is no need to be overly optimistic
While Tottenham’s interest in Axel Disasi signals their intent to address their defensive shortcomings, there is little reason to be overly optimistic until a deal is finalised, given the club’s repeated failures to land their primary targets.
With time running out, Spurs must act decisively if they are to prevent another defensive target from slipping away, yet their track record in this window does not inspire confidence.
