Tottenham Hotspur continue to be interested in a move for Adam Wharton as they face complications in signing their other top midfield targets.
Spurs are making a serious effort to land Sandro Tonali, but it has emerged over the last few days that both Man City and Arsenal could also make a move for the Newcastle man.
Tottenham are also showing an interest in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, who is expected to leave the London Stadium this summer following the Hammers’ relegation.
Dean Jones reported on Thursday that Spurs also retain a huge interest in Adam Wharton, who is seen as the ‘ideal’ deep-lying playmaker for Roberto De Zerbi’s system.

Adam Wharton emerging as Tottenham’s most realistic midfield target
TEAMtalk say that Tottenham are open to adding multiple central midfielders to their squad this summer as they look to rebuild their midfield.
The report says that concerns are growing at Spurs that they may not be able to lure Tonali, while Fernandes is wanted by many of the biggest clubs across the Premier League and Europe.
As a result, Spurs have entered the race for Wharton and are ready to make ‘a serious push’ for the Crystal Palace star.
The outlet asserts that the 21-year-old is ‘increasingly emerging as one of Tottenham’s most realistic high-profile targets’ of the window.
De Zerbi is said to be a ‘huge admirer’ of the Eagles midfielder, and believes that his technical quality and composure in possession would make him a good fit for the base of the Tottenham midfield.
Spurs feel they can get Wharton, but two other clubs are also in the race
TEAMtalk say that internally at Hotspur Way, there is confidence that they have a ‘genuine chance’ of completing a deal for Wharton as long as Palace are willing to engage.
The South London club are expected to demand ‘a substantial’ fee for the former Blackburn Rovers man if they do decide to listen to offers.
However, Liverpool also remain strong admirers of Wharton, while Man United have been monitoring the England international’s situation for a long time.
