Celtic have entered the race for Alfie Devine and may take advantage of Preston’s issues to secure a deal for the Tottenham Hotspur youngster.

This season was billed as a make-or-break one for Devine’s future at Tottenham after the attacking midfielder had struggled on loan over the past couple of years.

The 21-year-old certainly gave everyone a reminder of his quality, making the number 10 role at Preston his own and finishing the campaign with eight goals and six assists.

Preston have a £4.5m option to buy the Tottenham youngster permanently this summer, but the Spurs academy graduate may end up at another club ahead of next season.

Celtic could poach Alfie Devine from Tottenham amid Preston takeover talks

Football Insider have now claimed that despite Preston’s option to buy the midfielder, the Championship side is focused on bigger things at the moment.

They are currently waiting for the finalisation of the takeover of the club by Amr Zedan, and as a result, they are only exploring free additions and loan transfers for the moment.

As takeover talks continue at Deepdale, the door could be open for Celtic to win the race for Devine this summer.

The Scottish club could take advantage of Preston’s hesitation to ‘muscle their way into’ the race for the Tottenham midfielder.

Spurs are willing to sell Devine this summer

Football Insider says that Celtic have been ‘strong admirers’ of the young Englishman for a long time, with key figures at the club having been impressed by his progress this season.

In fact, it is revealed that their former interim boss, Martin O’Neill, personally watched Devine in Preston’s 1-1 draw with QPR back in April, before identifying the youngster as a summer target.

The publication asserts that Roberto De Zerbi’s side are open to cashing in on their starlet this summer as they undertake a major rebuild.
