Tottenham Hotspur are looking to press ahead with their summer rebuild, and with several positions under review, attention is now turning towards homegrown talent Hayden Hackney, who has been on the club’s radar for some time.

Getting transfers done quickly this summer could be the difference between securing a bargain and paying a premium, with it being a World Cup year.

The value of players heading to the tournament is likely to increase should they enjoy strong campaigns, and securing their services before it begins could prove a masterstroke for clubs.

Spurs are looking to take advantage of that window of opportunity and have already started to get busy in the transfer market.

Both Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson are set to join Tottenham once their current contracts at Bournemouth and Liverpool expire.

However, Spurs’ business is not expected to stop there, with further additions being lined up.

Tottenham prepare Hayden Hackney transfer move

According to The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur are now expected to make a formal move for Championship midfielder Hayden Hackney.

The Middlesbrough man has been on the radar of the Lilywhites over the last year, with Spurs Web reporting the Spurs’ interest in signing Hackney last summer.

No deal materialised, and Tottenham now appear ready to reignite their pursuit as they continue their midfield rebuild.

Yves Bissouma and Joao Palhinha are expected to depart Tottenham, with the former’s contract nearing its end and no renewal talks in sight, while Palhinha looks set to return to Bayern Munich following his season-long loan spell.

Spurs Web have also reported on Roberto De Zerbi’s desire to bring in a technical midfielder, with Nicolo Fagioli linked in recent weeks and Hackney now emerging as another option.

Spurs face Manchester United competition for Hayden Hackney

Securing the signature of the Middlesbrough midfielder will not be straightforward, with Crystal Palace and Manchester United also in the race.

Palace are understood to view Hackney as a possible alternative to Adam Wharton, whose future remains uncertain this summer.

United, meanwhile, are rebuilding their own midfield with Casemiro expected to leave and have identified Hackney as one of their targets.

The midfielder worked under current Manchester United boss Michael Carrick during his time at Middlesbrough, and the pair could reunite if the Red Devils beat Spurs to his signature.

Whoever lands him will surely be doing so at a bargain price following Middlesbrough’s Premier League play-off heartbreak, with Hackney reported to be available for £25m.
