Tottenham Hotspur have now shared a positive Gary Mabbutt update following his accident earlier in the week.
It was revealed earlier this week that Tottenham Hotspur legend and former club captain Gary Mabbutt suffered a serious injury.
The accident happened in South Africa on Wednesday and left him with a large blood clot in his calf.
The former captain was said to have begun treatment, with former Spurs team-mate Micky Hazard revealing on Facebook, via The Sun: “Guys, just to let you all know, Gary Mabbutt has had a serious accident in South Africa. He’s currently in hospital awaiting treatment for a big blood clot in his calf.
“Not allowed to fly until 24th at the earliest to get back to England. Please send him your best wishes to lift his spirits. Best wishes, Mabsy. You’ve fought bigger battles than this and won.”

Spurs have been in contact with the legendary captain, who wore the armband for a remarkable 11 years, since the accident and have now confirmed that he is recovering well.
Taking to social media platform X, Tottenham shared a positive update on Mabbutt’s condition, revealing how he is progressing following the accident, where he is currently recovering and the remarkable gesture he has already resumed despite his injury.
The club also passed on a message from the former captain to supporters who have sent their well wishes over the past few days.
The club wrote: “An update on our legendary former captain, Gary Mabbutt, who sustained a leg injury after a fall while on holiday in South Africa.
“He is recovering well and resting at the family home in Johannesburg awaiting medical clearance to fly back home.
“Today, he is back making his daily birthday phone calls to elderly supporters – incredible!
“Gary would like us to convey his thanks to all our fans around the world for sending well wishes in recent days.”

Of course, the thoughts and best wishes of many Tottenham fans will be with the former captain, who continues to attend many home games to this day.
His contributions during his time in north London are greatly appreciated, having helped Spurs win both the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup.
