Cold water has been poured on the speculation linking Napoli midfielder Antonio Vergara with a move to Tottenham.
While Spurs have already bolstered the middle of the park with the additions of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, some sources have said that Tottenham could look to add another midfielder to their squad before the window slams shut.
Spurs failed with a move for Vergara during the January window, and it has been suggested that the North Londoners have reignited their interest in the 23-year-old.
Just a few days ago, Area Napoli claimed that the Lilywhites were battling Atalanta, AS Roma, Bournemouth and Como for the midfielder.

Tottenham target Antonio Vergara on the verge of signing new Napoli contract
Fabrizio Romano has now shut down the speculation regarding the Italy international’s future by revealing that he is on the verge of committing his long-term future at Naples.
The journalist asserted that despite the ongoing rumours, Vergara was never a target for Spurs this summer.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I also wanted to clarify that the links between Tottenham Hotspur and Antonio Vergara are not true. Vergara is not a target for Tottenham.
“Vergara is signing a new contract at Napoli, it will be signed soon. He will get a salary rise. He was never a target, already in end of May/June when there were rumours, now these rumours are back again. But don’t forget that Tottenham want to sign Savinho. The player they want for winger position is Savinho. So let’s see what’s gonna happen there.”
Savinho’s proposed move to Spurs is accelerating
Romano is not the only one to discuss Tottenham’s interest in Savinho again, with several sources reporting over the last 24 hours that the Lilywhites are accelerating their move for the Brazilian.
In fact, The Daily Mail have even confidently claimed over the last few hours that Savinho ‘will’ complete a £65m move to Tottenham.
The report said that Man City are now working on closing the 22-year-old’s sale to Spurs and added that Roberto De Zerbi’s side are looking to make two more additions to their forward line this summer.
