Tottenham Hotspur are battling several big clubs for a Norwegian winger, and their pursuit of the player has just been boosted.

The player in question is Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup, and Tottenham’s interest in the player first came to light earlier this week.

TuttoMercatoWeb reported a few days ago Spurs and Liverpool had both expressed an interest in the 22-year-old, whose stock has risen considerably over the last six months.

The outlet explained that the Premier League duo face competition for Milan, Como and Atletico Madrid for the youngster, but the Lilywhites may have one advantage over these suitors.

Tottenham target Andreas Schjelderup wants Premier League move

A new report in Portuguese newspaper Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now handed Spurs a boost by claiming that Schjelderup is particularly attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

The winger, who impressed with his cameo off the bench in their 3-2 win over Senegal earlier this week, is said to have dreamed of playing in England since his childhood.

The growing interest in Schjelderup is now becoming ‘increasingly difficult for Benfica to ignore’, but Marco Silva’s side is making efforts to keep the youngster at the club.

Benfica’s asking price and stance on Schjelderup revealed

Record say that while the 22-year-old is happy in Lisbon, Benfica are now attempting to secure the winger’s future.

In fact, the Portuguese giants have already offered a new five-year contract to Schjelderup, which would double his salary to around €3.6m (£3.1m) per season.

However, Benfica are still waiting to hear back from the Norway international on the contract offer, and it is revealed that the club would be willing to listen to offers for the player starting at €40m (£34.4m).
