Richarlison’s bad news on the transfer front continues, with yet another potential move collapsing and leaving the Tottenham striker in limbo.
Richarlison‘s future at Tottenham Hotspur remains in limbo after several failed transfer attempts in the last couple of weeks.
Moves to Vasco da Gama, Everton and Trabzonspor all fell through, leaving the Brazilian with no hope of playing a competitive game again after he was left out of Spurs’ Premier League squad and following the Lilywhites’ elimination from the Carabao Cup.
Still, with the transfer window open in the UAE, interest in Richarlison was reported earlier this week, with Dubai club Shabab Al Ahli showing an interest in signing the Brazilian – and now an update has been provided on their pursuit.
Tottenham reject Shabab Al Ahli offer for Richarlison
According to TeamTalk, Tottenham Hotspur are understood to have rejected an offer from UAE club Shabab Al Ahli to sign Richarlison.
The Dubai-based club were keen on bolstering their squad and had identified Richarlison as a forward option.
However, their attempt to sign the versatile forward has now been rejected, with Spurs deeming the proposed deal unsuitable.
Could Tottenham come to regret leaving Richarlison out?
There is also an argument that Tottenham’s decision to leave Richarlison out of their Premier League squad could yet prove costly given the side’s problems in front of goal.
Spurs failed to score in their opening four Premier League matches before finally finding the net twice in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa, while Dominic Solanke is still waiting for his first league goal of the campaign.
Solanke has struggled to make the impact Tottenham would have hoped for at the start of the season, and that inevitably raises questions over whether completely removing Richarlison as an attacking option was the right call.
Richarlison may no longer feature in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, but he remains an experienced Premier League forward who has previously shown that he can score goals for Tottenham. With Spurs already struggling badly for goals, the decision to leave him outside the squad removes another potential option at a time when De Zerbi’s attack is not delivering.
Of course, there may be wider sporting, financial or dressing-room reasons behind the decision that are not publicly known. But purely from a footballing perspective, Tottenham’s lack of goals means Richarlison’s continued absence is likely to become an increasingly prominent talking point if their attacking problems continue.
Richarlison likely to stay at Spurs until January
TeamTalk further claims that despite there being one week left before the transfer window closes in the UAE, a move away from Tottenham now remains unlikely.
That means the Brazilian will now have to wait until January before he can leave north London unless something drastic happens.
Richarlison had once considered terminating his contract when interest from Vasco emerged earlier this month. It remains to be seen whether such a path will be considered again, although Tottenham would have little to gain from that.
The Brazilian has less than a year left on his current deal, while Spurs hold the option to extend his contract for another year.
