Tottenham select ‘primary focus’ for left-wing signing, but Summerville is still one to watch

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed Tottenham Hotspur’s top priority as they eye forward additions amid their summer rebuild.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans are aware that the club are huge admirers of Savinho, a player they were keen to land last summer.

However, a move was blocked by Pep Guardiola, who wanted the Brazil international to remain at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spaniard has since left Manchester City, and Spurs have reignited their interest in Savinho this summer as they continue what has been a successful rebuild of their squad.

Tottenham prioritise Savinho in transfer plans

Following consecutive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, Roberto De Zerbi, who was crucial in keeping Spurs in the top flight, has now been handed a war chest to build a squad capable of competing at the other end of the table.

So far, £237 million has been spent on new recruits, and expectations are that more signings will follow as Spurs turn their attention to strengthening their forward line after securing midfield and defensive additions.

Savinho remains one of the names linked, although Crysencio Summerville, Rafael Leao and Cody Gakpo have also been mentioned as players on Tottenham’s radar.

Journalist Ben Jacobs, speaking on talkSPORT, has now revealed that despite other names being considered, Savinho remains Tottenham’s top priority.

He explained: “Talks are now underway directly between West Ham United and Manchester United for Crysencio Summerville, who is just getting back from the World Cup, and do not forget that Tottenham have looked at him in the past as well.

“Their primary focus is Savinho. Let us see whether the Manchester City board choose to sanction that deal or not.”

City transition could open door for Savinho

Manchester City are undergoing a transition of their own following the departure of Pep Guardiola. Enzo Maresca has come in as the club’s new head coach, and one would expect that he will assess his squad before making decisions on the future of his players.

That, however, has not prevented City from being busy in the transfer market, having already signed Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

Most notably, the Citizens have also completed the signing of winger Monga from Leicester City. His arrival could potentially pave the way for Savinho’s departure, if Maresca wants to throw the teenager straight into the first-team set-up.
