Donley was one of several youngsters who featured prominently in pre-season, as Roberto De Zerbi got his first look at the midfielder. In fact, it was said that Donley left his new Spurs manager very impressed.

The 21-year-old has already made four senior appearances for the Lilywhites, all of which came in the 2023-24 season under Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham confirm Jamie Donley’s loan move to Luton Town

Spurs have now confirmed that Donley has completed his fourth loan move away from the club, having signed for Luton Town on a season-long loan.

Luton were in the Premier League just a couple of years ago, but the club now find themselves in League One following successive relegations.

While the midfielder spent last season in the Championship (at Stoke and Oxford), he has previously featured in League One for Leyton Orient in the 2024-25 season.

Why have Spurs loaned out Donley to League One rather than the Championship?

Given how highly the young midfielder is rated at Hotspur Way, many Spurs fans may have expected the youngster to join a Championship side.

However, Donley struggled to get the expected game time at Stoke last season, while he failed to pull up any trees at Oxford.

The youngster was outstanding in his one previous season in the third tier, bagging eight goals and 10 assists for the O’s two years ago. It appears that Tottenham want to ensure Donley plays regularly and regains his confidence this term.
