Tottenham star Djed Spence beats Kylian Mbappe in World Cup speed rankings

Tottenham Hotspur have already seen one of their players make headlines at the World Cup, with Djed Spence finding himself among some of the fastest players at the tournament despite limited minutes on the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur have 11 players representing their respective nations on the world stage in the USA, Mexico and Canada this summer.

The hope for these players will no doubt be to create iconic World Cup memories for themselves, similar to that of club captain Cristian Romero in 2022, who won the World Cup with Argentina.

Of course, it is still a long way until the final next month, but despite only playing one game, one Tottenham star has managed to get himself into the record books.

Throughout their history and even at present, Spurs have been lucky to have several quick players within their ranks.

In the current squad, Micky van de Ven surely stands out as the quickest not only at the club but also in the Premier League after breaking the record for the fastest recorded sprint in Premier League history, clocking an astonishing top speed of 37.38 km/h (23.23 mph).

At the World Cup, full-back Spence has now found himself in a similar conversation, although he has not recorded the fastest speed.

According to BBC Sport, Spence ranks inside the top ten fastest players from the first round of games at the World Cup.

The full-back clocked a top speed of 35.2 km/h, leaving him joint seventh for players to have recorded the highest sprint speeds in matchday one.

This comes despite him coming off the bench in the game against Croatia, where he featured for just ten minutes.

Interestingly, tied in seventh place with him is Tottenham legend Heung-min Son, who is at the World Cup with South Korea.

The former Spurs man also recorded a top speed of 35.2 km/h. He and Spence are ranked higher than Kylian Mbappe, who sits ninth on the list with a top sprint of 35.1 km/h.

While in 10th place, Pedro Neto comes in with a speed of 34.8 km/h.

At the other end of the list, Jordan Bos recorded 36.7 km/h, Erling Haaland reached 36.5 km/h, while Khushannov also recorded 36.5 km/h.

Mohamed Toure hit 35.8 km/h, Ryan Gravenberch reached 35.6 km/h and Alan Minda recorded 35.5 km/h.
