Tottenham tipped for £4.4m transfer payday, but they could use it as a discount instead

European football expert Andy Brassell has revealed whether he expects Tottenham Hotspur to get a financial windfall this summer via a transfer for Troy Parrott.

The Tottenham academy graduate has lit up Dutch football this season, with 31 goals in 47 appearances for AZ Alkmaar.

He has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Everton reported to be fans of Parrott, while some sources have said that Coventry City could also make a move for the former Spurs man.

Tottenham have a 20 per cent sell-on clause on the Irish striker, and one expert believes that the Lilywhites may be about to get some good news this summer.

It has even been said that Parrott would be keen on a return to Tottenham this summer.

AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have also been credited with an interest in Parrott, and Andy Brassell believes that the striker may end up at the San Siro this summer.

The journalist is confident that the 24-year-old will get a big transfer this summer after the season he has just enjoyed at AFAS Stadium.

When asked about Parrott’s growth this season, Brassel told talkSPORT: “This has been the season of his life, really. He’s been really consistent in front of goal. He consistently gets himself into goal-scoring positions as well. Still only 24, so there’s room for him to develop more. But I think the move to AZ has been brilliant for him.

“Of course, it’s a cup win this year as well. So even if he were to stay, there would be European football at the end of it. For what it’s worth, I don’t envisage that. I think he gets his move this summer. Now we know that Milan have been very interested – I suppose part of that depends on where they end up. Do they end up in the Champions League or the Europa League? How much money have they got in the pot come the end of the season? Is Max Allegri still the coach?

“I think clearly they’d like to continue with [Massimiliano] Allegri, but if they don’t make the Champions League, that’s quite a difficult sell. So, look, he’s got time to put his feet up for a bit, take a deep breath and then figure out what he’s going to do from there.”

By how much will Spurs claim from any Parrott transfer?

Brassel also explained that AZ are willing to cash in on their star man for around £22m, which he believes will make Parrott a tempting option for many clubs around Europe.

He added: “If you look at the sort of money that AZ are looking for, it’s around about the 25 million euro [£22m] bracket, I think. I think that’s really tempting for a lot of people. There’s enough of a player in there that you take the risk that he’ll step up to the next level for that sort of money.

“It’s not like AZ are asking for 50, 60 million or anything like that. So I think he will get a shot in a bigger league. I think he deserves it. He’s been brilliant for AZ and for the Republic of Ireland for a bit now.”

If AZ were to raise £22m from Parrott’s sale, Spurs would be owed £4.4m of the fee, as per their sell-on clause.
