Tottenham’s Djed Spence stance revealed as Everton push for £25m deal

Djed Spence is continuing to attract interest from Everton as the Tottenham defender focuses on guiding England to their first World Cup in 60 years.

Spence played 44 times for Spurs last season, mostly at left-back, due to Destiny Udogie’s injury concerns, and he did enough to force himself into the England squad.

The Tottenham full-back played an important part in England’s round of 16 win in Mexico and could be in line to start against Norway due to Jarell Quansah’s suspension.

As the 25-year-old focuses on taking his country one step closer to the ultimate prize, his club future continues to be the subject of much speculation.

Journalist would be surprised if Tottenham sell Djed Spence to Everton

Several outlets have reported over recent weeks that Everton are considering a move for the Spurs full-back this summer.

This has now been backed up by Football Insider, who say that David Moyes is prioritising solving his right-back issues this summer and is very keen on taking Spence to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, the outlet also spoke to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who confirmed that the Toffees do want the defender, but added that he would be surprised if Spurs sell the player.

When asked about the speculation linking Spence with a move to Everton, O’Rourke told the website: “I would be surprised if Tottenham were willing to let him go. I think he’s obviously on that list at Everton as they are very keen to bring in a new right back to solve what has been a problematic role for them in the last 12 months.

“Seamus Coleman has now left, Jake O’Brien was playing there last year but he is predominantly a centre-back. Spence is a versatile full-back as well, which would tick a lot of boxes for Everton. He can play right-back and left-back.”

Everton want to sign Spence from Spurs on the cheap

It was revealed by Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe a couple of days ago that Everton are willing to pay £25m for Spence.

That is unlikely to be a figure that would tempt Spurs to sell the player, who still has three years left on his contract in North London.

Spence’s stock has gone up even further as a result of his performances at the World Cup, and it is certainly going to take a much bigger offer to get Roberto De Zerbi’s side to reconsider their stance.
