Tottenham are set to begin their 26-27 Premier League campaign this weekend when they take on Brentford, and Spurs’ history of opening-day results looks positive.

The wait is finally over for Tottenham Hotspur fans, who are set to see their side take to the pitch in the Premier League for the first time since May this weekend.

A lot of work has been done during pre-season by Roberto De Zerbi and his staff in preparation for the 26-27 Premier League campaign, with Spurs hoping for a much-improved showing after finishing 17th in each of the last two seasons.

Tottenham are set to take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday in their Premier League opener, and they will be hoping to get off to a winning start.

History does show that Tottenham are capable of securing a win on the opening day of a new season. In fact, the record from their last ten opening-day results does hint that another matchweek 1 victory is possible this weekend.

In their last ten opening games, Spurs have secured six victories, three draws and have only lost once. Interestingly, in the last decade, they have faced this weekend’s opponent, Brentford, doing so in the 23/24 season at the Gtech Stadium, with the game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Last season, Tottenham began their league campaign with a 3-0 win against Burnley, but that in itself did not prevent the Lilywhites from having an abysmal campaign.

Regardless, De Zerbi will be hoping to make it a seventh opening-day win in 11 years when his side takes to the pitch against Brentford on Saturday.

Brentford’s opening-day record shows Spurs face a test

Brentford’s history also shows that they are capable of causing Tottenham trouble this weekend as they often start the season strongly.

The Bees have played only five matchweek one games in the last decade and in that period have only lost once.

That defeat came last season when they lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest away from home. However, while playing at the Gtech Stadium, they have yet to taste defeat, beating Arsenal, drawing with Spurs and beating Crystal Palace.

It will certainly be no walk in the park for De Zerbi’s side when they take to the pitch on Saturday evening.
