Another young Tottenham starlet is now on the verge of completing a move to Middlesbrough, thus further boosting the funds raised by the North London club this summer.
Radu Dragusin, Alfie Devine, Luka Vuskovic, Alejo Veliz, Tynan Thompson and Will Lankshear have already departed the club this transfer window, with more sales expected to follow.
Those six departures have seen Tottenham raise a potential £113.1m, which means the club’s net spend stands at just around £124m for the window despite their big-money additions earlier in the summer.
Middlesbrough completed a deal for Lankshear last month on the back of his excellent showing for Oxford United last season, and they are now on the cusp of signing another Tottenham youngster, who has also impressed in the Championship.
How much are Middlesbrough expected to pay for Tottenham’s Ashley Phillips?
Over the last few days, it has been reported that Boro are in advanced talks with Spurs over a deal for Ashley Phillips, who has been extremely solid at the back for Stoke City over the last two seasons.
BBC Sport now report that Boro have beaten off competition from several Championship clubs to land the 21-year-old defender.
The Teesiders are expected to pay an initial fee of £7m for Phillips, with several add-ons included in the deal.
Spurs have included a sell-on clause in the deal, and with personal terms not expected to be a problem, the centre-back has been backed to seal a move to the Riverside Stadium in the next couple of days.
Journalist Michael Bridge has provided further information, revealing that add-ons are worth £13m, making the total package worth £20m if all of them are met. He also shares that Spurs have retained a 20 per cent sell-on clause for Phillips.
If Tottenham do recieve the full £20m for the youngster, that will take Tottenham’s total player sales to £133.1m, and bring their net spend down to just £104m.
Spurs will have the financial muscle to go big again in the transfer window
Reports have suggested that five more senior players are also available for sale at Tottenham this summer, some of whom are in the process of finding a new club.
Cristian Romero, Guglielmo Vicario, Djed Spence, Richarlison, and Lucas Bergvall all face uncertain futures at the club, and even if three out of the five players leave, that would help the Lilywhites make a significant further dent on their net spend.
Tottenham are attempting to add Savinho and Gakpo to their squad, and it appears that they would have the financial means to spend big on the pair in the final weeks of the window.
