Xavi Simons’ standout display against Brighton and Hove Albion has earned him widespread recognition, with the Tottenham star now in line for a notable Premier League honour.

Tottenham Hotspur’s performance against Brighton and Hove Albion is one that fans can certainly get behind, given the fight and determination shown.

Spurs played with real intent to take all three points, going in front twice at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but a resilient Brighton side refused to be beaten, and the game ended 2-2.

Xavi Simons was the star of the show, with the Dutchman producing a display worthy of the £50m spent in the summer, grabbing both a goal and an assist. His strike was a stunning effort, well hit, leaving Bart Verbruggen with no chance.

Tottenham star Xavi Simons nominated for Premier League award

The Dutchman’s performance against Brighton has gained a lot of recognition this week. Troy Deeney included Simons in his team of the week for BBC Sport after his outstanding display.

Ashley Williams also had the Spurs number seven in his team of the weekend for Sky Sports, while WhoScored included Simons in their team of the week as one of the highest-rated performers in gameweek 33.

The Premier League has now nominated Simons for Player of the Matchweek after his impressive display against Brighton.

The Dutchman is joined by seven other top performers from this gameweek, including Morgan Gibbs-White, Erling Haaland, James Justin, Rayan, Bernardo Silva, Ollie Watkins and Ferdi Kadioglu.

However, if Simons is to walk away with the prize, he will need as many fans as possible to cast their votes. Voting is now open and will close tomorrow (Friday, 24 April) at 10am (UK).

Tottenham need more from Xavi Simons in survival push

Simons’ underlying numbers against Brighton show just how impressive he was beyond his goal contributions.

The Dutchman was immense in several other areas of the game, putting in a solid shift both in attack and defence.

That sort of fight is what Tottenham fans will expect to see more of as their side continues to battle for Premier League survival.

Up next is a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Spurs will be hoping Simons can help spearhead their first victory in 2026 after they came so close last time out against Brighton.
