Troy Deeney reveals why he cannot see Spurs winning the title

Watford striker, Troy Deeney has revealed that he cannot see Tottenham Hotspur winning the title because of their over-reliance on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Both Son and Kane have started the season on fire, with the South Korean currently topping the Premier League goal charts along with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the England captain having registered more assists than any other player in the league (Premierleague.com).

Aided by their two in-form forwards, Jose Mourinho’s side have enjoyed an impressive start to the season which sees them sitting just two points behind league-leaders, Liverpool after playing seven games.

Spurs received another potential boost on Sunday after Gareth Bale came off the bench to net the winner against Brighton, with some fans delighted to see the Welshman get off the mark.

Tottenham will be hoping that is the first of many for Bale this season but Deeney insisted that the Real Madrid man cannot be relied upon to deliver for the whole campaign.

Speaking to talkSPORT (02/11/20 at 6:30 am), the striker said: “Can they [win the title]? Yes they can. Will they? I am probably going to stick to no. I just think over the course of the season, and I think the midweek [game against Antwerp] showed it, that if they were to get an injury to a Kane or Son. Have they got somebody to step up to score the goals?

“Yes [they have Bale] but Bale has had his injuries. So, you cannot rely on him. I don’t mean that in a negative way.

“Can you sit there and say he is going to be fit all year round? That’s why he’s not starting at the minute. They are easing him back in. He hasn’t had a proper pre-season in a little while.

“I think ultimately they will always concede goals as well. They will always concede chances. So, I think they might just fall short. But I would say the top four.”
