Vinai Venkatesham and Lewis family have begun ‘internal transformation’ at Tottenham

A new report has shed light on the steps that the Tottenham leadership have taken to set the club on the right path after seeing several worrying signs.

Tottenham still do not know if they will be in the Premier League next season, heading into the final game of the campaign, which is not a situation anyone would have foreseen last summer.

Even if the Lilywhites manage to get the job done against Everton on Sunday, it would still mean that they have to settle for two back-to-back 17th-placed finishes, which is unfathomable for a club with so many resources.

Reports indicate that Spurs will invest significantly in their squad if they stay up, and it has now been revealed that work has been underway behind the scenes to right the club’s wrongs.

Tottenham heirarchy working to correct misteps of Daniel Levy era

Sky Sports have now claimed that ‘an internal transformation’ has begun at Tottenham at the behest of the Lewis family and CEO Vinai Venkatesham, and they intend to see it through.

They are determined to implement these changes regardless of whether Spurs are in the Premier League or Championship next summer.

The process began with Venkatesham conducting an interval review last year on how the club had ended up with rising revenue and debt, while also having an uncompetitive team.

The review found that the club had gone from posting profits until 2018 to £450m in losses until last season, driven by unsustainable spending, lack of revenue from player sales, and high operational costs.

The review and its findings were the catalyst for asking Daniel Levy to leave after 24 years as chairman. It is explained that Tottenham face a ‘difficult summer’ as they attempt to stay in line with the Premier League’s financial rules.

The Lewis family is committed to getting Spurs back into a healthy position, and their task will be made much easier if De Zerbi’s men manage to stay up.

Recruitment and lack of leadership identified as biggest problems at Spurs

Sky Sports say that Venkatesham believes Tottenham are a sleeping giant capable of great success, but significant changes are needed to the staff, the culture and practices at Hotspur Way.

He is prioritising appointing the right people to key positions to improve the club’s recruitment decisions.

The Spurs CEO also identified the lack of leadership at the club as a big issue, with Lilywhites not replacing the influence of leaders such as Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

That is the reason why Tottenham signed Conor Gallagher and attempted to secure Andy Robertson in January, with both players seen as potential leaders by the North London club.
