Wales teammate opens up on whether Joe Rodon is ready for Premier League move

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Joe Rodon has all the attributes that a centre-half needs to succeed in the Premier League, according to his Wales international teammate Chris Mepham.

Mepham knows first-hand the difficulty of coming up against world-class forwards in the Premier League, with the centre-half having tasted top-flight football with Bournemouth until their relegation to the Championship last season.

The Cherries man could line up alongside Rodon in central defence for Wales in their friendly against England on Friday, where the pair may also come up against Spurs and England talisman Harry Kane.

Reports indicate that the Swansea man is Tottenham’s number one central defensive target as things stand, with the club hoping to get a deal finalised for the 22-year-old before the October 16 domestic EFL deadline (Football.London).

Some Spurs fans on social media have been left divided over whether Rodon would be a good signing, with a few insisting that they would rather see the club wait until January and go back in for Milan Skriniar.

However, Mepham is convinced that Rodon will be a real coup for whoever signs him. He told Sky Sports: “Joe’s quality is there for everyone to see.

“He’s played a lot of games for Swansea now and has been putting in some really good performances. He’s definitely got what it takes to make the step up.

“He’s very calm and composed on the ball and very confident in stepping forward. Defensively, he’s very dominant in the air and he’s quite a big lad so he imposes himself on the game.

“I think he has all the characteristics that any Premier League team would look for in a centre-back. If he does make the step up then I hope he does really well. I think he could be a good talent.”
