Lucas Bergvall has made an interesting admission after putting pen to paper on a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
Bergvall has started just one of Tottenham’s three league games so far: the club’s 3-0 loss to Brentford on the opening day of the season.
The 20-year-old struggled alongside Sandro Tonali in the double pivot, but Roberto De Zerbi publicly defended the Swede, confidently asserting that the youngster will not repeat the same mistakes he made against the Bees.
It came as a shock to many today when it was announced this morning that Bergvall had signed a new contract at Spurs, thus committing himself to the De Zerbi project.

The reason the contract extension came as a shock was that it was widely reported that Bergvall wanted to leave this summer in search of regular game time.
However, the 20-year-old has evidently changed his mind, explaining that he is hungry to continue improving every day and be part of what Spurs are building.
Bergvall told Tottenham’s official website: “I think we’re building something great here. It’s an exciting time for the Club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.
“I’m always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that.
“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”
Roberto De Zerbi appears to have convinced Bergvall about his future
From the midfielder’s words, it is clear that he feels he is at the right place to continue improving as a footballer.
It was reported by Alasdair Gold during pre-season that De Zerbi has been looking to develop Bergvall in his preferred number eight role, rather than the number 10 role where he has played most often for the Lilywhites.
The youngster clearly feels that the Italian is the right man to improve him, and this is undoubtedly a huge boost for the club, with the Swede having no shortage of talent.
