Cristian Romero is being sought after by several big clubs after being put in the shop window by Tottenham Hotspur.
Over the last couple of days, Atletico Madrid have emerged as the clear front-runners for Romero’s signature, having overtaken Inter Milan in the transfer race.
It has been suggested that both Spurs and Atletico are confident of striking a deal for the Argentine, as they continue negotiations, with the player keen on a move to the Metropolitano Stadium.
However, several sources have claimed over the last 24 hours that Arsenal are not giving up on their pursuit of Romero, as they continue to explore a sensational deal to take the Tottenham captain to N5.

The Sun have now confirmed that Arsenal remain very much interested in the 28-year-old, alongside Atletico and Inter Milan.
The report further claims that Romero wants to sign for Mikel Arteta’s side and is willing to cross the North London divide if the opportunity presents itself.
However, the publication claims to have heard from a ‘high-level source’ at Spurs that the club will not entertain the prospect of selling the centre-back to their bitter rivals.
The report added that Tottenham’s stance ‘appears to rule out’ the possibility of Romero following in Sol Campbell’s footsteps.
Atletico Madrid readying a new offer for Romero
The Sun backs up what other sources have reported over the last few hours by revealing that Diego Simeone’s men are preparing a fresh bid for Romero, financed by the expected sales of Matteo Ruggeri and Nahuel Molina.
The outlet reveals that while Inter remain keen on Romero, the Nerazzurri have not been able to agree personal terms with the player.
According to reports from Spain, the Spurs star has already agreed terms of a contract with Atletico, as the La Liga club step up their efforts to strike an agreement with the Premier League side.
