Mathys Tel has given Tottenham Hotspur a clear ultimatum over his future ahead of next season.
Tel played a valuable role in ensuring that the Lilywhites secured survival in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth, with the injuries to Spurs’ forward line handing the Frenchman plenty of opportunities in the second half of the season.
While the 21-year-old may not have done enough to cement his place in Roberto De Zerbi’s starting eleven, he did showcase several glimpses of his immense potential.
De Zerbi has said Tel can develop into a great player for Spurs, but the youngster has now made a key demand from the North London club.

Mathys Tel is willing to stay at Tottenham under one condition
Reports indicate that Spurs are making advances towards landing big-money wingers this summer, which may push the former Bayern Munich man further down the pecking order.
Sky Sports journalist Zinny Boswell has now revealed that Tel’s preference is to stay at Tottenham, but he has made one demand to do so.
The versatile forward wants assurances that he will be in a ‘stable environment’ and wants to feel the trust of everyone at the club.
Boswell wrote on X: “Understand Mathys Tel ideally wants to stay at Spurs but would like assurances he’ll be in a stable environment where he feels the trust + confidence of the club. 21yo played a crucial role under RDZ in keeping Spurs up but had a difficult season, including a double UCL omission.”
Tel can transform into a top player under De Zerbi
While the France U21 international is still young and raw, he has undoubtedly improved considerably over the last 12 months at Tottenham.
De Zerbi may be the perfect coach to get the best out of Tel, who will enjoy the freedom afforded by the Italian a lot more than Thomas Frank’s rigid system.
It is certainly not inconceivable that the young forward could transform into a top-class player with another season of regular football under his belt, and one would not expect Tottenham to entertain any offers for him this summer.
