Mikey Moore is undoubtedly one of the brightest young talents to emerge from Tottenham’s academy in recent years, but what comes next for the electric Spurs winger?
In 2024, Moore became the youngest player ever to represent the club when he came on as a late substitute against Manchester City at just 16 years old.
The young winger scored his first senior goal for Tottenham against Elfsborg in the Europa League in 2025 and followed that up with an impressive pre-season before agreeing to a season-long loan move to Rangers.
Tottenham’s squad is currently undergoing a major rebuild. Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke have already arrived, while reports suggest several more first-team signings could follow before the transfer window closes. As a result, opportunities within the squad will become increasingly competitive, leaving academy prospects with a simple choice. Prove they belong or look elsewhere for regular football.
So what does that mean for one of Tottenham’s most exciting young players?
Tottenham XI competition might prove too much for Mikey Moore next season
The first-team squad is being reshaped after two disappointing Premier League campaigns. With that in mind, it looks increasingly difficult for Moore to force his way into the side, especially with the quality already at the club and the players being linked with moves to North London.
Tottenham already have plenty of options in the wide areas, even if not all of them have consistently delivered. Mathys Tel ended last season in excellent form and was one of the few bright spots during a difficult period. He remains a raw talent, but his willingness to run at defenders and produce moments of quality makes him an exciting option.
Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert are both natural wide players and are expected to return from injury. Both possess exceptional pace and valuable Premier League experience. Alongside them is Xavi Simons, who is most effective operating from the left, while Richarlison has also been used in wide positions when required.
Tottenham have also been linked with a high-profile move for Savinho from Manchester City. If the club were to spend around £60 million on the Brazilian, it is difficult to imagine him arriving as anything other than a regular starter.
With multiple senior options already competing for places, Moore could find opportunities hard to come by this season.
Will Spurs cash in on another homegrown talent?
The downside of Tottenham’s long-overdue rebuild is the cost. A summer involving as many as eight signings could easily exceed £300 million, meaning player sales will be required to balance the books.
It seems almost unthinkable that the club could consider selling Luka Vuskovic, yet rumours continue to link him with a move to Brighton if the right offer arrives. If a player of his potential is not considered untouchable, then every young talent at the club will be looking over their shoulder.
Modern financial regulations only add to the temptation. Any fee received for an academy graduate is recorded as pure profit, making homegrown players particularly attractive assets when clubs need to generate funds.
Moore’s loan spell at Rangers has enhanced his reputation. If a club were to offer £40 million or more for an 18-year-old who is still unproven at Premier League level, would Tottenham really be in a position to turn it down? We hope so. We really hope so!
Could Mikey Moore benefit from a Premier League loan?
Moore enjoyed a highly successful season at Rangers, making 47 appearances for the Glasgow club while contributing seven goals and three assists. Those numbers may not leap off the page, but for a teenager experiencing regular first-team football for the first time, they are extremely encouraging.
Perhaps more impressive than the statistics was the impact he had on games. Moore regularly delivered Man of the Match performances and quickly became a fan favourite. His direct running, creativity and willingness to take responsibility made him a constant source of excitement. There is little doubt he would be welcomed back to Ibrox with open arms.
However, if Tottenham are serious about understanding exactly where Moore stands in his development, then a Premier League loan could be the ideal next step.
A newly promoted club or a side such as Crystal Palace or Leeds United could provide the perfect environment to test his abilities at the highest level of English football. Such a move would allow Tottenham to assess whether he is capable of making an impact in the Premier League while continuing his development through regular senior football.
The obvious drawback is game time. Unlike at Rangers, there is no guarantee Moore would start every week, and that could slow his progress at a crucial stage of his career.
The best move for Tottenham and Moore alike…
There is no question that Moore is a special talent with the potential to play for Tottenham for many years to come. What he needs most right now is first-team football.
A return to Rangers may not be the most glamorous option, but it could be the smartest one. He is familiar with the club, trusted by the coaching staff and adored by the supporters. Most importantly, he would likely play every week.
For a young player still developing his game, regular minutes remain the most valuable currency of all.
