Piero Ausilio is now available after his contract with Inter Milan ran out, and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in the Italian sporting director.

Spurs went through the summer window with Johan Lange as their sole sporting director, which is not a situation many would have foreseen a few months ago.

Roberto De Zerbi has spoken very positively about his relationship with Lange and CEO Vinai Venkatesham, and it appears that the club’s hierarchy have delivered most of the Italian’s top targets.

As the Lilywhites embark on a new era after significantly rebuilding the squad, they are now stepping up efforts to appoint a new sporting director.

Tottenham ready to open talks with Piero Ausilio who is appreciated by Roberto De Zerbi

It emerged on Wednesday that Tottenham had expressed an interest in Piero Ausilio, who has left his role at Inter Milan following 28 years at the club.

Journalist Nicolo Schira has now taken to social media to reveal that the Italian director is expected to hold talks with Spurs over the next few days.

The journalist claims that De Zerbi is a fan of Ausilio and has already given Tottenham the green light to appoint the 54-year-old.

Schira wrote on X: Expected direct talks in the next days between Tottenham and Piero Ausilio. Former Inter’s sporting director could have a role in THFC’s sports management. Roberto De Zerbi appreciates him a lot and has already given his green light for this possible move.”

De Zerbi is likely to retain major power at Spurs

De Zerbi has been given the keys to the project by Tottenham, who have handed him a five-year contract and backed him with the signings he wants.

The Spurs hierarchy have evidently decided to give the Italian the time he needed to build a long-term project, and according to reports, De Zerbi now has almost Sir Alex Ferguson-like powers at Tottenham.

It may be challenging for some sporting directors to work in that context, which is why the man who comes in needs to have a good relationship with the Spurs head coach.
