Tottenham Hotspur’s players are set to return to Hotspur Way over the coming days as Roberto De Zerbi begins preparations for his first full season in charge, with the club’s new signings among those expected back early.
Ahead of his first full season in charge, Roberto De Zerbi admitted he wanted to begin pre-season with the squad he had envisioned in his mind, giving his new signings as much time as possible to settle into his ideas. Tottenham’s hierarchy have certainly done their part, completing five signings already, with another expected to follow despite the transfer window only opening barely three weeks ago.
Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka all arrived on free transfers, while Spurs have also invested heavily elsewhere. Jan Paul van Hecke joined in a £52m deal before the club broke its transfer record twice by signing Mateus Fernandes for £85m and Sandro Tonali for £100m.
Although the World Cup has provided plenty of entertainment this summer, Tottenham supporters will be eager to see De Zerbi’s squad back together after last season’s relegation battle. With Spurs due to face MK Dons in their first pre-season friendly on 22 July, here’s when each player will report back to Hotspur Way.

Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes expected among Tottenham’s early returnees
According to football.london’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham’s players will report back to Hotspur Way in stages, beginning on Friday 10 July, when the first group undergo medical assessments, fitness testing and gym work before moving onto full training from Monday 13 July under Roberto De Zerbi.
New arrivals Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are expected to be part of that first group, having not been involved at the World Cup. Gold adds that the only scenario in which they arrive slightly later would be if De Zerbi grants them an extra day or two off after they cut short their summer holidays to complete their transfers.
Also expected back early are James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher, Archie Gray, Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Souza, Antonin Kinsky, Guglielmo Vicario and Brandon Austin.
Elsewhere, Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski will continue their recoveries from long-term injuries before returning when fully fit, while Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons remain sidelined with ACL injuries and are not expected back until around the turn of the year.
Four Tottenham players could miss most of pre-season
Tottenham had 12 first-team players involved at this summer’s World Cup, meaning several members of De Zerbi’s squad will return later than the rest.
According to Gold, Andy Robertson, Rodrigo Bentancur, Micky van de Ven, Jan Paul van Hecke, Lucas Bergvall, Kevin Danso and Pape Matar Sarr have all now exited the tournament and will report back in stages after completing the three-week post-tournament break.
Luka Vuskovic has also seen Croatia’s World Cup campaign come to an end, but he is not expected to return to Hotspur Way, with the defender set to complete his £50 million permanent move to Brighton. Radu Dragusin is also unlikely to report back, having recently completed a loan move to Fiorentina.
That leaves Cristian Romero, Marcos Senesi, Djed Spence and Pedro Porro still competing in the competition. Depending on how far their respective countries progress, the quartet could miss as many as four of Tottenham’s pre-season fixtures before rejoining the squad.
Gold also explains that De Zerbi will make decisions during pre-season on the involvement of younger players including Yang Min-hyeok, Kota Takai, Dane Scarlett, Alfie Devine and Ashley Phillips, while returning loanees such as Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear and Jamie Donley will also be assessed before their futures are decided.
