Tottenham Hotspur’s spending this summer has underlined a major shift in the club’s transfer strategy, with the Lilywhites already closing in on one of the biggest transfer windows in their history.
Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will be pleased to see their club finally show some ambition, especially after the dismal run endured last season in the Premier League.
Spurs managed a rather disappointing 17th-place finish and spent the second half of the campaign battling against relegation.
However, after beating the drop, Tottenham have aggressively targeted the summer transfer market.
Thus far, Spurs have completed six signings, with three players joining on free transfers and another three arriving for significant fees.
Jan Paul van Hecke(£52m), Sandro Tonali (£100m) and Mateus Fernandes (£85m) stand as Tottenham’s biggest purchases so far this summer, while Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have all arrived as free transfers.

Tottenham’s latest summer spending ranks among the club’s biggest ever
With a total of £237 million already spent this summer, Tottenham are currently enjoying one of the most expensive transfer windows in the club’s history.
As it stands, Spurs have already surpassed last season’s transfer activity, when they spent £149 million on six new additions.
In fact, this summer’s business has eclipsed every other transfer window in Tottenham’s history except the one in which Spurs spent £272 million on new signings back in 2024.

Spurs could still make history this summer
While Tonali and Fernandes are among the new additions, Spurs are still expected to complete even more signings this summer.
Reports have it that the forward line is one area Tottenham are also working hard to strengthen ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Several names have been linked, including Eli Kroupi, Rafael Leao, Crysencio Summerville and Savinho.
Those players are certainly not expected to arrive on free transfers and, should Spurs complete another two signings, their expenditure this summer could become historic, making it the club’s highest-ever spending spree in a single transfer window.
