Tottenham Hotspur currently have one of the most expensively assembled squads across the Premier League, but they are far from top.
Spurs had the fourth-highest net spend across the English top flight this summer (£146m), as they made wholesale changes to their squad after two successive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.
This summer’s spending spree means that Tottenham have the fourth-highest net spend across Europe over the last decade, showing that the club have splashed the cash regularly, contrary to the popular notion of them being frugal under Daniel Levy.
The Spurs hierarchy will now hope that Roberto De Zerbi can take the club back to the top part of the table with the resources he has now been handed.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has now revealed just how expensive each club’s Premier League squad is in terms of cumulative transfer fees.
Tottenham rank fifth, with the club shelling out £852m in total on their squad. Only Liverpool (£980m), Man City (£969m), Chelsea (£918m), and Man Utd (£862m), have more expensive assembled squads than the Lilywhites.

Where do Spurs rank on the current value of their squad?
The expense of the squad does not necessarily tell us about the current market value of players, with players’ values being fluid.
When we look at the current market value of each Premier League squad, as per Transfermarkt, Tottenham have the sixth most valuable squad in the division at €809m (£694.9m).
All the remaining five clubs of the so-called ‘big six’ have more valuable squads in terms of current value.
However, this can be subject to massive change, with the value of many players able to skyrocket and drop dramatically over the course of a season depending on how they perform.
