Following the departure of Daniel Levy after more than two decades at the helm, Peter Charrington is the man tasked with driving Tottenham forwards.
Levy’s departure, announced in September 2025, brought an end to a 25-year tenure, with the 63-year-old concluding a spell that saw him become the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League.
Despite a Europa League triumph in 2025, regular European football and significant commercial success, Levy’s reign was not without its controversy, nor detractors.
In his place, Peter Charrington was brought in as a non-executive director on the board and told fans in May 2026 that “football success had not been driving our decisions” and promised “seismic change”.

Peter Charrington first joined Tottenham in March as a non-executive director, but following Daniel Levy’s exit, he became non-executive chairman, effectively becoming the new figurehead of the board.
His arrival came about the same time as when Vinai Venkatesham was appointed as chief executive of Tottenham in April, with the new Spurs CEO tasked with the day-to-day running of the club.
Peter Charrington’s career before Tottenham
Before stepping into the Tottenham boardroom, Charrington was best known for his long career in the financial world, where he spent 26 years at Citi running the Global Private Banking business, operating primarily out of New York.
He rose to become chief executive of Citi Private Bank, overseeing global clients and gaining experience at the highest level of international finance.
Alongside his Citi career, he became director of ENIC, the group that holds the majority stake in Spurs.
Charrington’s role in ENIC and connections to Joe Lewis
As a director of ENIC, Charrington has been heavily involved in the group’s investment structures, and his influence stretches beyond football into wider global business.
He also holds a senior partner role at Nexus Luxury, a company that operates the Albany resort in the Bahamas, which is co-owned by Tavistock Group, the investment vehicle of former ENIC majority owner Joe Lewis.
Those links underline Charrington’s deep ties to the financial networks that have long played a part in Tottenham’s ownership model, strengthening his standing within the club’s hierarchy.

Beyond ENIC and Tottenham, Charrington has built an extensive portfolio of boardroom experience across multiple industries.
He serves as a senior advisor to One Equity Partners and sits on the boards of engineering companies Amey and Acteon, as well as wealth management group Avaloq AG and investment group Saranac Partners.
In addition, he is a senior advisor to UST Global, a digital technology firm, further highlighting the breadth of his involvement in both finance and industry.
