Why Man City are ‘increasingly confident’ of beating Tottenham to Sandro Tonali

Man City remain attentive to Sandro Tonali’s situation as Tottenham push ahead in pursuit of a sensational deal for the Newcastle midfielder.

Tottenham fans got really excited when it emerged earlier this week that Spurs had become the front-runners to land Tonali after holding talks with the midfielder.

However, that excitement has been cut short due to some of the reports coming out over the last 24 hours, which indicate that Spurs will face intense competition for the Newcastle star.

It is being reported that Man City are seriously considering landing Tonali as well as Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, as they eye a midfield rebuild ahead of Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge.

What Man City are ‘increasingly confident’ about regarding Tottenham target Sandro Tonali

TEAMtalk have now claimed that Man City are ‘firmly in the hunt’ for the midfielder and are ‘increasingly confident’ they would be Tonali’s preferred destination if he remains in the Premier League.

While the 26-year-old’s preference is to return to Serie A, he has also ‘seriously considered’ the prospect of moving to the Etihad Stadium and has been impressed by the project put forward by the Manchester club.

Tonali’s camp also liked the wider package that City offered, including their long-term vision for the player, the role he would have in the squad and the support structure available to his family.

Man City not put off by Newcastle’s valuation of Tonali

TEAMtalk back up what other sources have reported regarding Newcastle’s valuation of the player, claiming that the Magpies want more than £100m for his services.

This valuation has not deterred City, who have lost Bernardo Silva and are also willing to listen to offers for both Rodri and Nico Gonzalez.

They could thus be in the market for two midfielders, and the Etihad hierarchy are ‘increasingly confident’ that they remain ‘best positioned’ to win the race for the former AC Milan man.
