Gallery: The top five French stars who have played for Spurs

Tottenham does not necessarily have a large connection to French football. Just 13 Frenchmen have played for the club.

But with Tottenham recently capturing the signature of Tanguy Ndombele (BBC), the figure of 13 can now be increased to 14, with Ndombele being the 14th Frenchman to put on a Spurs shirt.

Spurs signed the now-former Lyon midfielder for a club record initial fee of £53.8m (BBC). The transfer became the Club’s second of the season following the announcement of Jack Clarke earlier on the same day.

Spurs had waited over 500 days for any transfer activity, and they finally got two in one day.

With the announcement of Ndombele joining Spurs, we list our top 5 best French players to play for the club, with the exception of Ndombele who obviously is yet to play a game.

Hugo Lloris has been labelled as one of the world’s best goalkeepers throughout his career. Let alone at Tottenham, he is likely one of the best keepers the club has seen in decades.

Lloris has appeared 298 times for Tottenham across his continuing career.

Despite being heavily criticised many times during the 2018/19 season, Lloris arguably played an enormous role in Spurs’ 2018/19 Champions League and Premier League campaigns.

His penalty save against Arsenal in 2019 kept Spurs in the top four, allowing the club to eventually cement their place in the 2019/20 Champions League.

He famously denied Sergio Aguero scoring from the spot in Spurs home quarter final clash against Manchester City, helping Spurs to go on and reach the semi finals.

During the 2018/19 campaign, he kept 16 clean sheets across all competitions.
