Tottenham Hotspur have finally agreed a deal for Mateus Fernandes, with the transfer sparking plenty of reaction from West Ham United supporters across social media.
Tottenham Hotspur have finally landed one of their midfield targets this summer after completing the signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.
The 21-year-old joins for a whopping £85 million fixed transfer fee after Spurs beat fellow Premier League rivals Manchester United to his signature.
An official confirmation is yet to arrive, but with both respected journalists David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano reporting the deal as done, Fernandes now looks set to become Tottenham’s fifth signing of the transfer window.

West Ham fans react as Tottenham complete Mateus Fernandes deal
With £85 million for Fernandes this summer and £55 million for Mohammed Kudus last summer, Spurs have now handed their London rivals £140 million in transfer fees.
This has now led to mixed reactions from several Hammers fans across social media after news broke that Fernandes is now set to move to Tottenham.
Taking to social media, one fan said: “£85m for Fernandes. Thanks very much Spurs 😂😂😂.”
Another supporter added: “Tottenham have bank transferred West Ham £140m in 12 months for 2 players. Absolutely unreal for a team they call ‘Wet Spam’.”
A third fan was, however, more level-headed, adding: “West Ham have pulled off an ABSOLUTE MASTERCLASS getting £85m GUARANTEED for a player relegated to the Championship… beating Lavia to Chelsea by £32m… He is a really great player, so it isn’t a haha to Tottenham at all! Great deal all round. Great job West Ham, enjoy Spurs.”
The banter kept coming, with another supporter stating Tottenham just paid “£85m for a player with back-to-back Premier League relegations.”
Others were not too excited, with one commenting: “Yeah our biggest rivals have yet again nicked one of our best players… Let’s celebrate.”
A final supporter added: “Can laugh but Tottenham are getting a player with an absolute serious amount of potential. Only club who was serious and seem serious about their rebuild.”
