Fresh reports surrounding Cristian Romero’s potential absence from Sunday’s clash against Everton have sparked frustration among sections of the Tottenham Hotspur fanbase.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will be turning up in their numbers to cheer their side on one last time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the curtains drop on the 2025/26 campaign.

Countless among the Lilywhite faithful will also be hoping this is not the last time they cheer their side on in the Premier League, with Spurs’ fight against relegation going down to the wire.

Spurs Web has since reported that Roberto De Zerbi is looking to create a raucous atmosphere on Sunday afternoon, urging supporters to come greet the team coach before the start of the game.

Such is the magnitude of the occasion for Tottenham, who are in search of a single point against Everton to secure their top-flight status after close to half a century in the division.

Tottenham fans react to Cristian Romero latest ahead of Everton clash

We have already seen calls for togetherness this season as Spurs navigate what has been a difficult campaign.

However, it has now been reported that club captain Cristian Romero is set to miss the biggest game in Tottenham’s recent history – a game even De Zerbi has dubbed a bigger final than the Europa League.

Romero is expected to be in Argentina to watch the final of the Argentine championship, where his boyhood club, Belgrano, are set to face River Plate.

Tottenham fans have now taken to social media to share their reaction to the latest reports, and many are far from pleased to hear that the club captain will be miles away from the club during such a huge moment in their season.

One fan said on X: “I have always, ALWAYS defended Romero, how he plays and all the controversy that has come along with him, but if this is true, he should not be allowed back inside Hotspur Way when the season is over.”

Another supporter added: “Since the Liverpool game where he intentionally got sent off to try and spend Christmas in Argentina, this guy has done nothing but cost us points. He is absolutely bang average and at fault for most of the goals we conceded. Good riddance.”

A third supporter backed claims that he wants out: “Everything Romero has done this season has been to make it easy for him to leave this summer. Speaking out against the club, poor performances, the red at United where he looked like he did not give a toss. This is probably just so that fans are angry at him too. Not even angry, get rid.”

A fourth labelled his actions as disgusting: “Absolutely disgusting really. Regardless of if he sees his future here or not, as club captain for such a huge game he simply has to be here. Unforgivable.”

One Tottenham fan site wrote: “Inexplicable and frankly extraordinary that the club Captain of Tottenham Hotspur won’t be in attendance for one of the biggest games in the history of the Football Club. Dereliction of duty is an understatement.”

A final fan added: “Should be gone in the summer. One of our most unreliable players and is the captain.”

Spurs could now cash in on Cristian Romero

There are already reports linking Romero with a move away from Tottenham this summer, and from fans’ latest reactions, it is clear many will not mind him being sold.

Atletico Madrid, who were in for the centre-back during last summer’s window, are once again knocking on the door as they remain keen on signing Romero.

Tottenham could now cash in on the Argentine, with Spurs Web reporting that a fee in the region of £60m could be what is needed to lure Romero away from north London.
