Some Tottenham fans will be fuming after the latest update on Cristian Romero ahead of the Lilywhites’ huge clash against Everton.

Roberto De Zerbi has said that Tottenham’s clash against Everton is bigger than last year’s Europa League final, and it is easy to understand why.

The Lilywhites are staring at the prospect of being relegated from the top-flight for the first time in nearly five decades, needing a point to avert disaster.

James Maddison has assured Spurs fans that the players will give everything for the badge on Sunday, but one senior Tottenham man will be more than 7000 miles away.

Cristian Romero will be there to support his Tottenham teammtes against Everton

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was not at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday as he had travelled to Argentina ahead of the game.

Journalist Tim Vickery has now revealed on talkSPORT that the 28-year-old had made the trip to his home country to cheer on his boyhood club Belgrano in their league final against River Plate on Sunday.

That means Romero, who is currently nursing an injury, will not be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to cheer on and support his teammates for what is arguably the biggest game in the club’s recent history.

Is this a clear sign that Romero expects to leave Spurs?

If one were to be kind to the centre-back, they would say that he probably thought the relegation battle was done when West Ham lost to Newcastle last week.

However, this is undoubtedly terrible optics for Romero, whose commitment to Tottenham has been questioned by many pundits this season.

Reports continue to claim that Romero expects to leave Spurs this summer, and the Argentine’s actions certainly suggest that he has already made up his mind regarding an exit.
