Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they would have to pay another huge fee to prise Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer.

After making major reinforcements to their backline and their midfield over the last month, reports indicate that the Lilywhites are now looking for top-class additions to their forward line

Roberto De Zerbi is thought to be keen on adding two attackers to the Tottenham squad, with a left-winger allegedly the Italian’s priority.

Over the last few weeks, several sources have indicated that Spurs expressed an interest in Cody Gakpo, and the Lilywhites have discovered how difficult a deal for the Liverpool man would be.

Tottenham warned about Liverpool’s valuation of Cody Gakpo

Several outlets have suggested that Spurs may soon present an offer for the Netherlands international to test the Reds’ resolve.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs has now warned Tottenham that they would have to spend a huge fee on the former PSV Eindhoven man, suggesting that the £70m sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona would be the benchmark for Gakpo’s price.

Jacobs told talkSPORT: “There’s been links in the last few days with Cody Gakpo. He is a name on Tottenham’s list. Let’s see how that develops. Liverpool don’t really have a desire to sell.

“If anyone wants to do business with Liverpool, they’re going to be pointing, for example, to Anthony Gordon’s £70m move from Newcastle United to Barcelona. The market is inflated and Liverpool have a very high asking price for Cody Gakpo.”

Is Gakpo keen on leaving Spurs?

It was reported by TEAMtalk last month that Gakpo’s representatives were exploring options for a summer move away from Anfield as the 27-year-old is concerned about falling down Andoni Iraola’s pecking order next season.

However, Jacobs has now denied that claim, insisting that the Dutchman has not expressed an intention to leave Anfield yet.

The journalist added about Gakpo’s situation: “The player also, despite reports in the Netherlands, hasn’t, at the time of recording, told Liverpool that he wants to leave. But Spurs might be one to watch.”
